Rockstar Confirms L.A. Noire Freezing, Crashing, Offers Workarounds

Rockstar Confirms L.A. Noire Freezing, Crashing, Offers Workarounds

Small percentage of older Xbox 360s and PS3s impacted by issues.

To be read in the voice of Will Ferrell's Mugatu character from Zoolander: L.A. Noire... so hot right now... L.A. Noire. End dated movie reference. How hot is Team Bondi and Rockstar's crime thriller? The game is reportedly overheating some older models of Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles, causing them to freeze and crash.

After blaming the latest PlayStation 3 PSN-restoring firmware update for the issues (pig pile on Sony!), Rockstar has backtracked, admitting L.A. Noire itself is responsible for the problems a small percentage of gamers are experiencing on the PS3 -- a realization likely made when similar reports came in from Xbox 360 gamers.

Rockstar Confirms L.A. Noire Freezing, Crashing, Offers WorkaroundsA patch is in the works, Rockstar stated this afternoon, and until then, the publisher offered this apology and these workarounds:

We are sorry to hear the game is freezing! We have received a few tickets about some isolated crashes / freezes and we are investigating them individually to find out the causes and the resolution.

Here is what to do if you are crashing or freezing in L.A. Noire:

  • Delete your L.A. Noire Game Data (not save data) from the PS3 Game Data Utility. If on 360, clear the 360 cache.
  • Create a new temporary PS3 user to ensure that new save files are created. If on 360, create an offline Silver Gamertag.
  • Launch the game and try again. If you are on PS3, try playing while signed out of PSN.
  • Check your disc for scratches, dust, dirt, or other damage. Clean if necessary.
  • Check other game discs in your PS3/360 to see if issues are occurring in other games, suggesting a potential console problem.
  • Try your L.A. Noire disc in a different console or try a different L.A. Noire disc in your console to determine with certainty whether the issue could be with the disc or console, rather than the software.

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings

Release Date : 16-05-2011
Protection: SecuROM
Game Type – RPG
Disk(s).: 2 DVD

Game details
The second installment in the RPG saga about the Witcher, Geralt of Rivia, features a thoroughly engrossing, mature storyline defining new standards for thought-provoking, non-linear game narration. In addition to an epic story, the game features an original, brutal combat system that uniquely combines tactical elements with dynamic action. A new, modern game engine, responsible both for beautiful visuals and sophisticated game mechanics puts players in the most lively and believable world ever created in an RPG game. A captivating story, dynamic combat system, beautiful graphics, and everything else that made the original Witcher such a great game are now executed in a much more advanced and sophisticated way.

Features:

A truly epic, intense, emotionally charged adventure with non-linear game narration. Three independent plot lines with several alternative events are dependent on the player’s choices and lead to multiple different game endings and several additional plot forks. This time gameplay time will be shorter than The Witcher 1, but more intense and packed with events.
A complex, realistic and mature story touching upon subject matter seldom seen in other RPGs, told in a manner that is understandable and attractive to contemporary gamers. We investigate the assassinations of the rulers of the Northern Kingdoms and follow Geralt’s personal theme, in which he’s looking for his own identity. Gradually we learn how powerful forces influence our situation and what role they order us to play.
Rich, mature dialogue as found in Andrzej Sapkowski’s book series and The Witcher 1, presented in highly filmic cutscenes and dialogues sequences, thanks to a new game engine.
New, improved system of flashbacks. Now the reminiscences of Geralt, in which we observe the link between our past choices with current actions, are realistically and smoothly woven into the gameplay.
Unique, deep, consistent and rich game world established in a series of best-selling books by A. Sapkowski and recreated in the game to provide an incredible, believable story-driven experience.
Believable, true-to-life characters with their own motivations and goals. During our journey we meet ordinary men, soldiers, rebels, powerful mages, rulers and their assassins. Depending on our decisions we meet different game characters, and our relationships shape further actions in the game.
Highly varied, breathtaking locations, which thanks to the new engine create a cohesive, fully accessible world!
Rich, living world in which every character has their own way of life and unique occupations. Our actions modify the relationship with the game-world population and, in the case of the main plot line, open or close the possibilities of interaction with the game world.
Greater freedom of exploration to provide increased game realism and a wider range of new tactical options. Geralt will surmount barriers, jump over fences, scale walls and ascend rock formations.

Exploit Allows Hackers to Reset PSN User Passwords

Exploit Allows Hackers to Reset PSN User Passwords

Attacks on Sony continue with exploit in PSN password reset page

The good news is PlayStation Network is still up and running. The bad news is that hackers have once again made Sony their target, exploiting a glitch in the PSN password reset web page that allowed them to reset other users' passwords and potentially hijack millions of accounts.

Sony confirmed this morning that it suspended signing in to PlayStation.com, Qriocity, and the PlayStation forums and it has taken down the PSN password reset web page as it investigates the issue.

According to various reports, the exploit allowed anyone to reset another PSN user's password by simply inputting their username and date of birth -- the very information that more than 77 million PSN users had stolen in April. It's unclear at this point how many users -- if any -- were impacted by the exploit.

Gaming site Nyleveia broke the news, reporting that: "Despite the methods currently employed to force a password change when you first reconnect to the PlayStation Network, your accounts still remain unsafe. A new hack is currently doing the rounds in dark corners of the Internet that allows the attacker the ability to change your password using only your account's email and date of birth. It has been proven to me through direct demonstration on a test account, so I am without any shadow of a doubt that this is real."

Eurogamer verified the exploit, and in response to the news, Sony announced via its Twitter account it suspended sign-ins and took down the PSN password reset page due to "essential maintenance."

Responding to questions about the exploit, Nyleveia started a Q&A in which it stated: "I would suggest that everyone, regardless of if they have been affected or not, create a new password and change their account email to one they do not use anywhere else, and will not be sharing with anyone else just for additional security."

L.A. Noire Review - PS3 Games

L.A. Noire Review

In another lifetime, L.A. Noire's upstart Detective Cole Phelps would have gotten on well with cartoony Capcom criminal defense lawyer Phoenix Wright. The two do-gooders share a similar crime-solving methodology; investigation, interrogation, and intimidation are the watchwords here, and Phelps sees to his homicide cases with a laser-guided penchant for justice. The Ace Attorney comparison might sound superficial, but it's not: While L.A. Noire has Rockstar Games' DNA all over it, it takes more than a few crafty cues from the adventure game genre.

Call it a modern-day Police Quest. The virtual streets of 1947 Los Angeles -- painstakingly and impressively recreated, quite possibly street-for-street, from a staggering amount of photo research -- teem with violence, drawing inspiration from numerous real-world sources (not least of all, Mafia kingpin Mickey Cohen and the Black Dahlia murder). Cue Cole Phelps and a litany of disgruntled partners, systematically observing and canvassing gruesome (and I can't emphasize that word enough) murder scenes, led from place to place by an always-dependable evidence trail. Haptic feedback betrays crucial clues, while a telltale jingle indicates when it's time to move on. Disable them if they offend your inclination for arbitrary challenge; I opted out of the contemporary pixel-hunt.

L.A. Noire's linearity might strike some sandbox aficionados as strange -- and, this being a Rockstar game, it is -- but guided doesn't mean inferior. Yes, mindless meandering is a sore thumb in this harsh world; while random street crimes and collect-them-all widget hunts certainly account for some small percentage on the pause-screen ledger, the fact that you can usually fast-travel to your next destination (don't, though -- the in-transit banter is always worth the drive) sends a clear "stay on target" message. It's for the best: The always-on-point narrative hits the beats that it needs to when it needs to, resulting in one of the strongest stories Rockstar's ever published. During his musical-chairs tour of LAPD's various beats, Phelps struggles to maintain his principles and his dignity inside of a corrupt legal system, in the face of hardships and vices that paint the would-be hero as only human. Even a jarring late-game focal shift (you'll know it when you see it) manages to maintain the momentum all the way to L.A. Noire's dark and fitting conclusion.

But you won't make it through those 19-odd hours without ruffling a few feathers, and the aforementioned Wright analogy makes even more sense during shakedown sequences. Interrogated individuals -- guilty or not -- aren't always forthcoming, and careful application of Phelps' truth/doubt/lie reactions is key to uncovering critical testimony. Well, let me rephrase: It's key to uncovering enough clues for a positive post-case fitness report, with a bonus lack of browbeating from Phelps' superiors (and some points toward unlocking another swanky three-piece). In practice, even the world's worst detective could bumble his way to the endgame; nod and smile at every fib, or squeeze innocent witnesses for nonexistent truths all you want -- you'll still receive whatever's necessary to move the plot forward. Finite intuition points take some guesswork out of the canvassing process, though if you're good at reading faces (and reviewing evidence -- proof's always necessary to make an accusation stick), it's not too tough to develop a nose for nonsense. For my part, routinely guessing upwards of a dozen correct answers in a row certainly made me feel at least a bit clever.

Of course, the interrogation room serves double-duty as a prime place for developer Team Bondi to show off some amazing facial animation tech. I'm not up on the process, but I bet that L.A. Noire's characters could pass for real people to anyone not paying close attention. I experienced a few "Oh hey, look who it is!" moments when the meticulously recreated mugs of geek-genre mainstays like Greg Grunberg and Keith Szarabajka popped up; the ever-overexposed Uncanny Valley creeps in at times (someone take note: consistently natural body animation should be next on the to-do list), but L.A. Noire's characters are -- without a doubt -- the most realistic-looking human beings ever designed for a video game. The voice-acting is the believability linchpin, though; props to the cast, particularly the performances behind wrathful Homicide Captain Donnelly and affably gruff Detective Rusty Galloway.

In some ways, this is a weird game for Rockstar. It's a guided experience that casts you as an underdog hero, which practically paints it as a full-mirror image of the Grand Theft Auto games. It's good to see the company broaden its horizons more and more; L.A. Noire plays its tropes well, and it's a fine exploration of the crime-adventure genre's flip side. As for Team Bondi, I hope it takes good advantage of L.A. Noire's modular nature by pumping out additional DLC case departments -- I'm itching to corner the Bunco desk's Frank Abagnale expy, or work Internal Affairs to give one particular Ad Vice lowlife his just desserts.

Sony announces the PlayStation 3's online service is being restored

Sony announces the PlayStation 3's online service is being restored

After three weeks, Sony announces the PlayStation 3's online service is being restored; Sony Online Entertainment also coming back.
Earlier this week, Sony promised it would "fully" restore the PlayStation Network by the end of the month. Today, the company took the first step in that process, announcing that the PSN will be brought back online today as part of a "phased" return. Sony Online Entertainment, Sony's massively multiplayer service, will also be coming back as part of the process.
"The restoration of the services across the Americas, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Middle East are beginning, and consumers will be able to enjoy some of the online functionality provided by both the PlayStation Network and Qriocity services," the company announced in a statement. "Phased restoration in Japan and other Asian countries and regions will be announced in due course." The first phase of the restoration includes online gameplay and chat functionality, but the PlayStation Store will remain offline for now. Third-party services such as Netflix, Vudu, and Hulu will also be back online.

Kaz Hirai, deputy vice president of Sony Corp., also apologized about the prolonged outage. "I'd like to send my sincere regret for the inconvenience this incident has caused you, and want to thank you all for the kind patience you've shown as we worked through the restoration process. I can't thank you enough for your patience and support during this time. We know even the most loyal customers have been frustrated by this process and are anxious to use their Sony products and services again. We are taking aggressive action at all levels to address the concerns that were raised by this incident, and are making consumer data protection a full-time, company wide commitment."

Sony also said that it had implemented new security measures as part of the PSN overhaul. As part of the process, the company has implemented a new firmware update (v3.61) which requires users to change their passwords.

Today's announcement comes over three weeks after the PSN first went offline on the evening of April 20. The following Tuesday, the company confirmed there had been a data breach, but it said some PSN services would be up within a week. Then, on April 30, the company announced it would give PSN users free content to make up for the outage and promised the network would be back online within the following week.

Last Wednesday, the company submitted a detailed timeline of the attack to the US Congress--the day before a cybersecurity expert claimed Sony knew the PSN's security software was outdated. The day after, Sony CEO Sir Howard Stringer offered an apology for the prolonged delay, and the company unveiled a free identity-theft protection program with $1 million worth of insurance for each customer.

Sony asks PS3 gamers to be patient. In Japan, government wants questions answered.

Sony asks PS3 gamers to be patient. In Japan, government wants questions answered.

Sony flipped the switch on PSN Saturday, but a significant chunk of the PlayStation 3 gaming population is still offline. The problem? A bottleneck in the tubes as millions of PlayStation Network users attempted to reset their passwords at roughly the same time. In Japan, however, Sony's home base, there is a completely different issue: the government is unsatisfied with Sony's new security measures.

Posting on the official PlayStation blog last night, Communications Director Patrick Seybold said Sony was inundated with password resets and had to turn off PSN once again to clear the queue. And though the outage was brief for most, many are still waiting for their password reset request to be completed.

"If you've requested your password reset, please give it a bit of time to reach your email," Seybold said. "Thanks for your patience as we work to get everyone back online."

Seybold's European counterpart, Nick Caplin, confirmed PSN users in his part of the world were experiencing much the same problem. Caplin noted that anxious PS3 gamers should refrain from submitting multiple requests as it will only further gum-up the works.

For PSN users in Japan, however, password resets aren't even an option yet. The Japanese government's media and content industry department at the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry won't allow Sony to restore PSN because the company's enhanced security measures are "incomplete."

"We met with Sony on May 6 and 13, and basically we want two things from them," department Director Kazushige Nobutani told Dow Jones Newswires. "The first is preventative measures. As of May 13, Sony was incomplete in exercising measures that they said they will do on the May 1 press conference."

In addition, the Japanese government evidently believes Sony has not yet done enough to regain the trust of consumers whose personal information was stolen. "There were similar cases in the past that were caused by other firms, and we are asking Sony whether their measures are good enough when compared to countermeasures taken in the past," Nobutani said.

Sony issued a response in a brief statement: "We are still in talks with various authorities. By receiving advice from the industry ministry, we would like to have the service in Japan ready."

Hydrophobia ProphecyHydrophobia: Prophecy is the ultimate version of this jaw-dropping action-adventure set onboard a floating city, where terrorists take control and heroine Kate has to overcome her haunting childhood memories to fight back using all her skills and expertise as a systems engineer.

2051. The world has become consumed by the ever rising tide of the global population flood. Fertile land has been reclaimed by rising oceans and expanding deserts, resulting in famine and poverty on an unprecedented scale. Water is now mankind’s most precious resource, and conflict erupts wherever it flows.
Hydrophobia Prophecy
A new political and ideological struggle has arisen. On one side are the Malthusians, who seek to control and reduce the global population. On the other side the Cornucopians, who want to find a technological solution to feed it. As desperation turns to despair, extremists on both sides are emerging.

Only one buble of the old capitalist world survives. The Queen of the World is the largest ship ever to grace the oceans, a colossal city at sea where the wealthy elite live in exile from the chaos which surrounds them. Onboard this stateless paradise the Five Founding Fathers set about pursuing their Cornucopian research unimpeded.

The contempt of the outside world is offset by NanoCell Corporation, one of the five, who promise to develop nano-technology to purify sea water at the molecular level and make the deserts bloom with the food of the world. But as they move closer to their goal, the bitterness of fanatical Malthusians grows.

The so called ‘Neo Malthusians’ timed their attack perfectly. 9.8 billion watched as they recast hope as hatred, following a prophecy to commit global genocide; drowning the planet with blood as they slash the worlds population to a mere half billion ‘righteous souls’. Carl Fredricksen is not your average hero. He's a retired balloon salesman, who is forced to leave the house he and his wife built together. But instead of moving into an old folks home, Carl takes action. He ties thousands of balloons to the roof, lifts the house into the air and sets off for South America, fulfilling the promise he made to his wife years before. However, Carl's plan is challenged by the discovery of a stowaway, the optimistic, overly eager Russell. Russell
Russell is an enthusiastic and persistent 8-year-old Junior Wilderness Explorer. Armed with a backpack laden with gear, he is ready for the wilderness. He's just one "Assisting the Elderly" badge shy of achieving his lifetime goal: Senior Wilderness Explorer. When he targets Carl Fredricksen as the elder he will assist, Russell ends up as an unwitting stowaway on Carl's porch when the house takes flight and finds himself on the true outdoor adventure he's been dreaming about.

Kevin
Named "Kevin" by Russell, this extremely rare, 13-foot-tall flightless bird is hidden from the world in its remote Paradise Falls habitat. Kevin is exceptionally fast and nimble despite its size. In fact, the massive bird often gets into some very curious and seemingly impossible positions. Very few know that this scientifically valuable creature exists, but Carl and Russell stumble upon the bird, which Russell names Kevin after he discovers they share a sweet tooth. Kevin and Russell bond instantly, and despite the bird's propensity to swallow Carl's walker, Kevin joins the jungle's most unlikely pack, along with Carl, Russell and Dug.

Dug
Dug is a lovable golden mutt living in the wilds of Paradise Falls as part of the dog pack searching for the rare, flightless bird. Sent into the jungle on a "special" mission, Dug accidentally succeeds when he discovers the bird following Carl and Russell. As they're pursued through the jungle by his own pack, the sweet, but simple-minded Dug must decide to which pack he actually belongs.

Devil May Cry 4 - PS3 Games

Devil May Cry 4 - PS3 Games

Number of Players: 1

Fans of the ‘Hack and Slash’ wing of the Action genre are more than likely familiar with the single player, gothic-flavored action of Capcom’s Devil May Cry franchise. The first three games in the series are centered on the sword play and gun slinging of demon hunter and long-time hero, Dante, but in the most recent release, Devil May Cry 4, players are thrown a changeup, as doubt is cast on the once unquestionable motives and actions of Dante by a new, yet somehow familiar hero, Nero.

Meet the New Kid in Town - Nero
Nero resembles Dante and Dante’s estranged twin brother Virgil, familiar to players from earlier games in the series. This might be more than a just a
coincidence--you’ll have to play through the game to find out for sure--but what is certain is that like Virgil, Nero has a serious problem with Dante; one that can only end badly for one of them.

As DMC4 opens players not only witness, but participate in Nero’s trial by fire as he is unexpectedly forced to go head-to-head with Dante. The youngest, but most promising new member of the land of Fortuna’s "Holy Knights," the military arm of the "Order of Maken," an organization pledged to destroy all demons as well as defend the memory and worship of Sparda, the historical Dark Knight who rebelled against the Dark Emperor to champion the fate of humanity, the Holy Knights highly respect Dante, who is a direct descendent of Sparda. This makes what Nero and players of the game must do all the more difficult, but no less necessary. A tutorial for learning and developing Nero’s skills as well as serving as the game’s first boss battle, playing as Nero, players must hold their own against the legendary demon hunter before they can proceed further into the game. But be prepared for Dante to return later in the game.

The World of Devil May Cry 4
Just as in previous installments in the DMC series, the world players explore in Devil May Cry 4 is lavishly gothic, feeling both ancient and modern simultaneously and is peopled by demons and demon hunters. In this dangerous world player’s weapons are sometimes all they can count on. Although you begin your journey playing in the role of newcomer Nero, players will also have the opportunity to play as Dante, Both character’s arsenals of weapons and abilities are impressive, but not too difficult to master. See the partial list of both character’s weapons and abilities below:

Nero

  • "Devil Bringer" Arm: Integrated into Nero’s right arm, it is a mystery even to Nero, but quickly reveals itself as a very effective weapon against demons, especially the largest among them.
  • Red Queen: Effective at when swung at high speeds, this sword has a motorcycle handle base that sprays flammable liquid on enemies when squeezed.
  • Blue Rose: Used for long range attacks, this pistol has two barrels which can be fired at once with armor piercing force.
  • The Exceed System: Allows Nero to charge up his sword with a throttle effect, revving up to three levels with powerful attack options.

Dante

  • Force Edge: Sharp and indestructible, this sword is a memento from his father Sparda, and was used to defeat the ancient enemy Mundus and seal the gateway to the underworld.
  • Ebony & Ivory: Dante’s twin .45 caliber companion pistols. They are Dante’s trusty companions as he battles supernatural evils.
  • Beowulf: Double gauntlets and greaves hold a flashing power to strike down enemies at close distances.
  • Active Style Change System: These allow Dante to switch between fighting styles and weapons on the fly, producing crazy combo possibilities that players will need to master.

Leveling up of both characters is done through DMC’s traditional orb collection system which can happen at any point in the game, while weapons and abilities are upgradable at the completion of levels through the new "Proud Souls" system. In addition the game’s deep combo system rewards players for ‘stylishly’ dispatching enemies by mixing and matching the weapons that they use in attacks, so it pays for players to get to know the arsenals.

New Characters and Environments
Joining Nero and Dante as they battle demons and each other throughout the game’s next-generation enhanced environments are a wide array of non-player characters both old and new to the Devil May Cry series. Familiar faces from the past like Trish and Lady will be there as well as new characters like Kyrie to illustrate Nero’s side of the story in the demon-filled landscapes of Fortuna and continue the legacy of fast paced, rich action players have come to expect from the Devil May Cry universe.

Dante’s Inferno tells an adapted story that focuses on delivering a blockbuster 3rd person action game experience while bringing Alighieri’s depiction of Hell to gamers. Dante descends into Hell after returning home to find his beloved Beatrice murdered, with Lucifer seducing her soul into the underworld. Dante sets out on a rescue mission to save Beatrice, but he soon realizes he is also in Hell to face his own demons and ultimately to redeem himself.

You will take Dante through nine unique circles of Hell as mapped out and described by Alighieri: limbo, lust, gluttony, greed, anger, heresy, violence, fraud and treachery. Each circle will showcase its own distinct look, with demons, monsters, damned and geography that are crafted straight from the poem’s vivid descriptions.

To take down the demons of Hell, Dante is outfitted with two primary weapons: the Scythe he takes from Death and the Holy Cross given to him by Beatrice, which has spiritual powers that will help Dante collect souls and spells from the creatures he defeats on his journey. The game also features a deep upgrade system so gamers can customize their abilities to their specific gameplay style, something they’ll need as Dante comes face to face with Hell’s fiercest beasts and bosses. If successful, Dante will be able to tame certain beasts, exacting their will and turning Hell’s punishments back on itself.

Built on the same technology as the award-winning Dead Space, Dante’s Inferno will deliver a fast, fluid and responsive combat experience running at 60 frames per second, a must-have for the action adventure genre. The game is being built by Visceral Games, with the same attention to polish the studio has become known for with Dead Space.

Features:

  • An Epic Adaptation of a Classic – Based on part one of Dante Alighieri’s classic poem 'The Divine Comedy', Dante’s Inferno is a 3rd person action adventure game that takes Dante on an epic journey through Hell as he seeks to rescue the soul of his beloved Beatrice.
  • The Nine Circles of Hell – Just like the poem, you will descend through Dante’s unique nine circles of Hell: limbo, lust, gluttony, greed, anger, heresy, violence, fraud and treachery. Each circle features distinct environments, enemies and story elements befitting the sins committed by their inhabitants.
  • Control the Beasts of Hell – Dante’s Inferno features large scale beasts and bosses, some of which Dante will be able to fully tame, utilizing them to throw back Hell’s wrath to its minions.
  • Fast, Addictive, Responsive Combat – Dante fights through the nine circles armed with Death’s Scythe and Beatrice’s Holy Cross, with magic powers and a deep, customizable upgrade system helping you to take full advantage of a fast and fluid gameplay experience that will never run at lower than 60 frames per second.
  • Visceral Games Stamp of Approval – From the award-winning studio that created the critically-acclaimed Dead Space, Dante’s Inferno will receive the same relentless focus on quality and polish Visceral Games has become known for.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - PS3 Games

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - PS3 Games
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is a single player Action-Adventure game developed as a reimagining of the classic Castlevania mythology. An entirely modern action console game, Lords of Shadow combines fast-paced weapons and magic based combat against otherworldly enemies, with platforming and puzzle-solving gameplay, to create a fresh gameplay experience that will thrill both fans of the original game series and gamers more rooted in modern action games.

Story

It is the end of days and ungodly powers isolate the Earth. The worlds' alliance with the heavens has been threatened by a dark and malevolent force - the mysterious Lords of Shadow. Across this shattered land, the souls of the dead wander unable to find peace, whilst creatures of evil wreak chaos and death upon the living.

Gabriel Belmont is a member of the Brotherhood of Light, an elite group of holy knights who protect and defend the innocent against the supernatural. His beloved wife was brutally murdered by the evil forces of darkness and her soul trapped for eternity. Neither living nor dead she realizes the horrific truth of what is at stake and guides Gabriel to his destiny – and hopefully salvation for the world.

Gameplay

Although based on the classic arcade side-scrolling platformer and the string of games that have followed over the years, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is a modern single player Action-Adventure game played from the third-person perspective. Based around the tragic past and seemingly inescapable destiny of the Gabriel Belmont character, the player engages in a mix of combat, platforming and puzzle-solving skills. To deal with the hell-spawned beasties and bosses encountered, Gabriel uses a mix of upgradable weaponry and magical powers. Weapons range from a cross that can be extended into a whip with grapple capabilities, to a gauntlet, knives and more. As players wield these they will gain access to energy orbs that reveal themselves as enemies are dispatched. This energy is stored in on-screen gauges and powers multiple kinds of usable magic within the game. Some of its uses involved improve attacks, while the other aids reflect regenerative health. It is the players choice to juggle where these energies are applied. The availability of energy can also be increased by avoiding the attacks of enemies as you battle them, with the payoff coming when they are bested.

In addition to run of the mill bad guys, the game contains loads of huge bosses, success against which requires patience, attention to screen prompts and timing. The player will also come up against many other creatures that although vulnerable to weapons can also be defeated and tamed by Gabriel. In many cases these can then be used as mounts and used either in boss battles or in puzzle-solving scenarios that may not be able to be solved without them. These potential mounts include wargs, spiders, warthogs and more. Taken together, all of these elements make for an entirely new take on the Castlevania gaming experience that is destined to satisfy new and current fans alike.
